Falcon, a question for you: Do we know what ended the last ice age?
falconfan00 - February 12, 2013, 1:37 pm
I agree there's a lot of good data related to global warming. There are, however, acknowledged caveats that i'd like answers to before we commit billions in borrowed funds to a problem whose impact we aren't wholly certain of. I think that's reasonable
Renza - February 12, 2013, 9:45 am
you mean like disregarding overwhelming world consensus by people who study thoroughly something?
falconfan00 - February 12, 2013, 8:23 am
Also, as a great philosopher once said: Rejecting science whenever it says something you don't like makes you dumber. Reply
falconfan00 - February 12, 2013, 8:22 am
I know issues, like the mechanics of the 100,000 glacial cycle, are as of yet undetermined, and as such, depending on what we learn, could render the whole climate change argument invalid. One cannot say man made climate change is fact until we know more
PapaFox - February 11, 2013, 5:43 pm
PapaFox - February 11, 2013, 5:42 pm
Ah, you mean the NIPCC that's practically owned by Exxon-Mobil through the Heartland Institute, one of the chief climate-change deniers? The one that the scientific community considers to be a bad joke? But then, I suspect you already knew that.
crankyhead - February 11, 2013, 4:57 pm
Science is always at odds with itself. Scientists call it 'peer review'.
Mooooooooooooooooooo - February 11, 2013, 4:53 pm

So, You agree that the earth is only 4000 years old? Or is it only you that gets to pick and chose science as you like?
falconfan00 - February 11, 2013, 4:45 pm
If we're agreeing that 'science doesn't even agree with science' in this case, then yea. But the whole 'if you don't agree with science your dumb' thing doesn't make sense when scientists remain on both side of the global warming issue.
crankyhead - February 11, 2013, 4:14 pm
falcon, just an observation: If the data proves that it is not a closed scientific issue, then isn't everyone in this conversation agreeing with each other?
falconfan00 - February 11, 2013, 3:48 pm
I like the whole 'you just lost all claim to understanding what science is all about' remark though. It was cute. Kinda made me chuckle.
falconfan00 - February 11, 2013, 3:46 pm
Are you remotely aware of the NIPCC's 800+ page document released in 2009 listing all the data that proves, quite simply, that global warming is by no means a closed scientific issue. Might wanna google that one.
Mooooooooooooooooooo - February 11, 2013, 3:37 pm

I love your take on Religious issues....I mean..I love your completely sensible logic and declaration of facts. BTW, Great Religifake posts, keep 'em coming.
PapaFox - February 11, 2013, 3:32 pm
Same goes for those who reject science when it clashes with their religious beliefs on things like evolution or the age of the earth. The same peer review process applies.
PapaFox - February 11, 2013, 3:31 pm
With the phrase "liberal version of global warming" you just lost all claim to understanding what science is all about. It's not something that you believe only when it tells you what you want to hear.
falconfan00 - February 11, 2013, 3:16 pm
What was 'retarded' was you making me spell out the fact that the term 'Science' covers quite a lot of ground, and that no one is denying 'science' as a whole. Please don't make me explain that a third time.
Renza - February 11, 2013, 3:14 pm
Science covers most aspects of existence and is based upon quantifiable, tangible, and testable things. I fail to see how science is retarded just because some people disagree with the answers we get.
Renza - February 11, 2013, 3:09 pm
So, you don't believe in global climate change (labeled as global warming and bastardized by those who disagree with it), and therefore science and the use of it is retarded? One can believe the world is flat if they wish, things are as they are though.
falconfan00 - February 11, 2013, 2:24 pm
... you are aware that the term 'Science' covers a few issues. Example: I can remain skeptical of the liberal version of global warming but still appreciate the law of gravity. Just the fact that you made me explain this is retarded.
Renza - February 11, 2013, 1:59 pm
Is there a particular use of "science" that you find inaccurate?
falconfan00 - February 11, 2013, 1:12 pm
Listen i'd love to continue this discussion but it's far too vague. 'Science' as a general term isn't being refuted as a whole, and to suggest such is goofy. If you're skirting around specific subjects, i'd be glad to address them.
PapaFox - February 11, 2013, 1:05 pm
Well, if your "skepticism" means disbelieving what science tells you if politicians and the corporations that own them tell you otherwise, then allow me to be skeptical of you skepticism.
falconfan00 - February 11, 2013, 12:41 pm
Well then, lets just agree that you'll accept what your told as long as it's been 'peer reviewed', whereas I'll continue to apply skepticism where i believe it is due. Sounds fair. There, now, who says the left/right can't compromise?
PapaFox - February 11, 2013, 12:28 pm
Peer review in science is based on skepticism.
falconfan00 - February 11, 2013, 12:26 pm
Believing something blindly based on what you were told by anyone, be it a priest or a scientist, without some healthy skepticism, is the dumb thing.
PapaFox - February 11, 2013, 12:21 pm
Rejecting science whenever it says something you don't like makes you dumber.
falconfan00 - February 11, 2013, 12:05 pm
so your argument is to shout equally random, offensive disrespectul and hateful things back, and that somehow validates your moral superiority? might want to rethink that one...
Renza - February 11, 2013, 11:43 am
About as much so as shouting random offensive, disrespectful, or hateful things we've heard, without any fact checking or common sense tests, would qualify as individual thought.
